The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia is pleased to administer scholarships and awards focused on a variety of interests on behalf of our fundholders. All scholarships and awards open on January 1, with varying deadlines to apply. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered or held/carried forward for the following year.

The Construction Association of Nova Scotia’s (CANS) Building Futures for Youth Award was established in support of CANS’ 150th Anniversary Industry Campaign. This campaign was launched in recognition of the value of education and the role of the construction sector in the growth of Nova Scotia’s economy. The award is offered to those pursuing a career in
construction through programs at the Nova Scotia Community College.
BFY Scholarship - Building Futures For Youth


The Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone Entrance Scholarship was established by the Province of Nova Scotia in 1991 to encourage young people to educate themselves on human rights issues in Canada. It honours the life and work of the late Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone, a former Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

Mitch MacDonald started the “Small Towns, Big Stages” award in a small effort to give back to the communities that supported him on his musical journey. The award consists of a $1000 Long & McQuade gift card.

The NS Department of Natural Resources and Renewables offers the Clean Economy Scholarship Program. To help students gain the skills needed to work and conduct research in the sector, 16 scholarships are available to those entering natural resource and renewable energy-related programs.

Zutphen Contractors provides scholarships to local students interested in trades, helping them further their education while building a connection with a company that is invested in their future. The scholarship offers $5,000 per year, renewable for up to two years, to three candidates annually. It’s targeted toward graduates who plan to attend community college and pursue careers in Civil Engineering Technology, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Automotive Mechanics, or Autobody Technicians.
