Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year at Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy
It is with great anticipation we welcome in the 2026-2027 school year for the students of Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy (CBHEC/A).
After beginning my teaching career at CBHEC/A some 25 years ago, I look forward to working closely with students, staff, and parents/guardians as I enter my third year as Principal. Stacia Evans, our Vice Principal, will bring her wealth of experience, 26 years at CBHEC/A, and enthusiasm to our school administration team.
We have a diverse population here at CBHEC/A, from students entering pre-primary to students graduating after 13 years as a Huskie. Our goal is to offer a safe and inclusive environment that allows every student to reach their full potential.
We also have a strong and caring staff here at the Highlands, some with over 20 years at the school, some in their first year and many in between. Preparation, consistency, and caring are three of the many traits our teachers bring to their roles as successful educators.
Parents, guardians and community members also play an integral role in supporting our school. We encourage your voice on our School Advisory Council as we seek new membership each year. Please consider joining our School Advisory Council. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy, or you can attend virtually if that is more convenient. Strong communication between school, parents, guardians and community goes a long way to build relationships. Through school and SRCE alerts (emails and texts), Facebook, X, school website (cbheca.srce.ca) and monthly newsletters, it is our goal to keep everyone informed.
School Supplies
Students will need to bring their own backpack, lunch box, water bottle, indoor sneakers for Physical Education, and headphones/earbuds.
Nova Scotia School Lunch Program
The provincial lunch program will begin in Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
We would like to thank our SRCE Operations Department for their hard work in cleaning and preparing our school for opening day.
